Crehana N.S. Wins Lismore Story Festival Bookbag Competition 2021 !

Crehana N.S. has won the bookbag project this year as part of the Towers and Tales Lismore story festival ! Thank you to Mrs Sheehan for your great effort in winning this for our school. Crehana N.S. is one of two lucky schools receiving a free library of books for use in our school library/ classrooms. This brand new school library is courtesy of the festival and Waterford City and County Library Service. Each year the festival donates a library of books to a school in Waterford supported by public donations. The 2021 library is to the value of €1250.00 per school.
We will be able to choose the type of book materials we need ourselves. Childrens Books Ireland will be in contact with us to discuss our requirements.

We have also won classes first refusal in the participation of the Towers and Tales schools events. The schools programme is available here for you to view –click here to view Towers and Tales Schools Events 2021. Crehana N.S. has chosen Amazing animal crackers- a quiz and drawing event, and Scouts best day ever as our two school events. The children will participate in these events online in their classrooms on Friday 30th April as part of the Lismore Story Festival.

Bookbag is a children’s book gifting initiative established by picturebook maker and creator of the Henry Hugglemonster series, Niamh Sharkey, during her term as Laureate na nÓg (2012–2014) Aimed at schools which may not have the necessary resources to fund books for a school library, the Bookbag project builds a buzz around reading and encourages a whole-school reading culture, which should be sustainable beyond the duration of the project.
Bookbag ensures that every child in the school has access to a selection of books in their school library. The books gifted are chosen carefully: they are visually striking, entertaining, funny and engaging; the type of book that we hope will draw in a child who does not already think of themselves as a reader.
