The Department of Education and Youth takes child protection very seriously. Keeping children safe and well is one of the most important responsibilities for everyone involved in their care and
education. This document has been developed to help you understand how child protection concerns are dealt with in schools.
In this leaflet ‘parent’ means the person or people who have the main responsibility for a child’s care and welfare – this can include biological parents, foster carers, legal guardians, adults acting
in place of a parent (in loco parentis) and adoptive parents.
