We have 2 lovely workshops for children lined up for Poetry Town Week in the beautiful Sean Healy Library Gardens. Both workshops are hosted by Ellen Foley, Final Year student of the Theatre and Drama degree in the Cork School of Music and are FREE, re-booking required. Spaces are limited.
Workshop One: Monday 13 September 3.30-4.30pm
Build a Poetree: Reading poems with children, children will select their favourite poem, circle their favourite word(s) or verbalise what they love about the poem. Children will write their favourite word(s) and/or draw imagery from the poem on paper leaves and together hang on the poetree.
Ages: 5-12 years old
The 8’ tree was crafted by Men’s Shed, Carrick on Suir for the children in the Presentation Primary School. The School kindly gave us a loan of the Tree for Poetry Town week.

Workshop Two: Tuesday 14 September 3.30-4.30pm
How to speak a poem: Children will read through a poem, they will learn how and when to pause, they will learn about pitch, pace and power and how they differ. Teaching will incorporate playing games and doing tongue twisters. Children will also have fun speaking the poem in different voices, they can select a favourite character from their favourite TV show or film and speak a line or two of the poem in the voice of the chosen character. Sounds like a lot of fun.
Ages: 7-12 years old
